Since it is difficult to tour around the entire Maldives due to the strict
regulations imposed by the Ministry of Tourism, we recommend you to
visit Male'; the capital. |
It's not impossible to visit the outer islands, but it's difficult
enough to deter all but the most dedicated and determined. An Inter
Atoll Travel Permit is required to visit islands outside the tourist
zone, and the Ministry of Atolls Administration will only issue them
to those whose visit is sponsored by a resident of the island
concerned.
The domestic airway services operate regular and very scenic flights
to the four air strips in the outer atolls. |

Male' is still relatively green and pleasant. The streets in the residential areas are shaded with trees, at places forming an arch overhead. A fair number of main streets are lined with big trees providing shade on both sides. Even a stroll around it would offer interesting sites and shots for the memories; a leisurely walk around the residential and shopping areas would provide an insight into the life and livelihood of the residents of the capital. Or simply sit down and relax at one of the small parks dotted around the capital and just observe the pace of life. | |
